An exquisite and beautifully preserved mid-to-late 19th-century (circa 1850–1870) Chinese export Rose Medallion porcelain oval serving dish or console bowl.
This piece displays the textbook, classic Rose Medallion arrangement with four alternating panels of finely detailed palace courtyard scenes and vibrant flora with nesting birds and butterflies encircling a central gilded medallion. The vitreous hand-painted enamels are exceptionally thick, glossy, and beautifully raised to the touch.
The reverse side is completely blank, confirming its pre-1890 age. The underside showcases a wonderfully authentic, unglazed oval foot rim with the deep darkening, texture, and minor kiln pitting characteristic of authentic 19th-century wood-fired firings.
