Signed American Brilliant Cut Glass Footed Comport by Clark, c 1902

I was so excited to find this authentic piece of American Brilliant era cut glass! The pattern is documented on a book piece (Boggess, "Identifying American Brilliant Cut Glass," p.126) by Maple City called "Gloria," but the signature is that of T. B. Clark, who owned Maple City Cut Glass. This cross-over dates the piece circa 1902. Neither Maple City nor Clark actually manufactured glass; they were both cutting houses. Their blanks came from another renown manufacturer and glass cutter - Dorflinger. The quality of the glass is confirmed by its refractive properties and the delightful ring of the crystal when tapped.
The highly decorated piece includes many classic AB period motifs, including a Blazed Star, a Flat Star, Canes, Cross-hatches, and Sawtooth. The "comport" (what we call a compote now) stands approximately 6 inches tall. The bottom of the foot features a large Blazed Star. The crystal refracts light beautifully and glows a very, very faint green under a strong black light. The overall condition of the piece is excellent. No flea bites, chips, cracks or haze. A really lovely piece of collectible American Brilliant glass.
